Physics & Engineering 11

Welcome!

This course is a synthesis of Physics 11 and Engineering 11, delivered as a two-block course. The objective of Engineering 11 is to apply the concepts in Physics 11 in combination with the design process to create solutions to design challenges. This course focuses on working in teams, modelling designs on the computer, and combining conventional tools with electronics, 3D printers, and the laser engraver.

Physics Labs

Many of the projects that you build in this course will also play a role in the experimentation component of Physics 11 (Mr. Arsenault). Testing your project, gathering data, and analyzing its performance will replace many of the conventional science labs in a Physics 11 course.

Individual & Group Project Work

Most projects in this course will be completed in groups of 2-4 students. The intention of this course is to build students ability to solve problems and complete projects as part of a team. However, some work in this course will be completed and assessed individually. Individual work will consist of work submitted individually (design drawings etc.) and individual contributions to group projects.

Assessment

5%          Safety (100% on safety tests required)

15%        Individual Work

60%        Project Work

20%        Shop Practice

Clean Up

Every class, the 5-minute clean up bell will sound. All students are expected to stop their work and clean up. If you finish early, please help others to finish up before the end of class.

Expectations

You will be working with expensive equipment in a shared space that is important to many people. I expect that you treat room and everyone in it with respect. You are required to work safely, clean up, and put in a consistent effort into your work. In exchange, I will try my best to make this course a meaningful experience.
